Which EV Priced Around $30,000 Would You Buy  With Poll Now that the base price of the 2013 Nissan Leaf is below $30,000 (including destination and before government incentives), the electric vehicle in more cost-competitive in its segment, which includes the Mitsubishi i-MiEV and Smart Fortwo Electric Drive among others. Nissan was able to lower the starting price of the 2013 Leaf with a new entry-level trim and by moving production for U.S.-bound cars from Japan to Tennessee.

The slightly de-contented 2013 Nissan Leaf S starts at $29,650. While the 2013 Leaf’s range hasn’t been revealed, the 2012 model was EPA-rated at 73 miles, though the 2013 range could increase. Those numbers compare favorably to the $29,975 i-MiEV, which has an EPA-rated range of 62 miles. The Smart Fortwo Electric Drive starts at $25,750, and has an unofficial range of 90 miles. Pricing for the 2014 Fiat 500E hasn’t been announced, but the Italian EV has an EPA-rated 87-mile range.

GM hasn’t released pricing or the official range for the 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV, but the automaker says the small EV will cost less than $25,000 after federal rebates ($7500) and have a range near the top of the class. Just above the $30,000 price range, there’s the 125-mile-range Coda sedan, which starts at $38,145. There’s also the $39,995 Chevrolet Volt range-extended EV, rated at 38 miles of all-electric range.
