1940 Ford Coupe Added to Automaker’s List of Reproduction Body Shells Ford is expanding its line of reproduction body shells by adding the iconic 1940 Ford Coupe to the lineup. The reproduction ’40 Ford body will be introduced to the public next week at the 2012 SEMA Show.
The new Ford Coupe body shell joins the 1965-1970 Mustang body shells that Ford has introduced at the last two SEMA shows. As is the case with the reproduction Mustang body shells, the ’40 Ford Coupe shells are built to the same specifications of the original by a third party, except this time around modern high-strength steel and welding techniques are used for added strength.
Though built to the original pre-World War II specifications, Ford will also sell a version with a modified firewall to fit a more modern (and powerful) powertrain compared to the original Ford Coupe’s flathead V-8. Ford will show off the new reproduction ’40 Coupe shell by featuring a fully built hot rod next week at SEMA. The car features Ford’s 5.0-liter V-8 crate engine, a four-speed slushbox, a Mustang II front suspension, and a chopped roof.
The reproduction 1940 Ford Coupe body shell will start at $11,900 (plus shipping), not including the doors or trunk. If buyers want doors and a trunk included, it’ll set them back roughly $15,000. For a closer look at the new ’40 Ford body shell, check out the video below.
